Festive Tradition Never Gets Old

Charlotte Rivera, Staff Writer

Downtown Ridgewood creates a special glow and merriment, every year at the annual Tree-Lighting ceremony. Ridgewood, NJ, has created a festive community filled with holiday cheer. The 34th annual Tree-Lighting celebration, otherwise known as Downtown for the Holidays,  will be taking place on Friday, December 6, 2019. Every year, The village of Ridgewood creates a holiday atmosphere, with performances, visits with Santa, and of course, the lighting of the tree.

When this holiday celebration approaches, old memories and joy flourish. Live on stage, there will be appearances and performances by,  RHS marching band, Heart in Motion, Porchlight Productions and Taekwondo. One of the feature companies, Porch light productions, has been performing in Downtown for the Holidays 10 years, first performance in 2009. Porchlight’s award winning Youth Performance Troupe, performs and selection of upbeat, festive holiday songs each year. The director, and owner of Porchlight Productions, Ryan Phifer says,“My favorite thing about having YPT involved in DTFH, is that it checks off so many boxes on a young performers checklist. It allows our students a chance to perform in new venue where the elements (especially weather!) are always unpredictable. This allows them to think on their feet and adapt appropriately.” This experience not only spreads holiday cheer, it teaches the young performers new aspect of performing. Ryan Phifer also says,”It has become a wonderful tradition in that is also a performance that is dedicated to celebrating family, friends, and taking time to be thankful for all of the amazing opportunities we have been given- like sharing our talents for others.”

This special holiday tradition really brings people together and spreads joy. So remember, don’t miss this holiday celebration!
