The Need for Seasonal Schooling

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Isn’t the alarm clock the most subtle object in the world? It’s like a baby’s lullaby. Don’t you just love the feeling of not getting your homework done? Having to cram it all in the morning of? Oh how ‘bout to top it all off, you have a quiz first period. It’s all just amazing isn’t it? -spoken by the most positive student ever. But what about the other thousands of students out there? On days like this, students wish for anything: snow day, tornado, hurricane, cloudy with a chance of meatballs- ANYTHING! However, the sky is crystal clear. With the birds chirping away, the morning couldn’t be anymore perfect. Now, with pressures rising daily and student’s focus level declining fast, it may be easy to just take the stress of life, but seasonal schooling can benefit these daily struggles, and improve students’ days throughout the nation.

 

As kids are preparing for tests and quizzes, sometimes students will end up studying all night, barely giving enough sleep for the next day in school. Because of the lack of sleep, kids won’t be as focused taking tests, leading to countless problems and mistakes that could have been avoided if given enough sleep. The countless hours of studying will have gone to waste, because without the proper amount of energy needed, the body will not be functioning as properly. The amount of sleep a student obtains greatly affects performance in school. Because of seasonal schooling, this problem can be resolved. Tests are a vital part of academics. People who get good test scores are generally on task and focused in class with good grades. Sometimes though, kids with all of these factors may not end up getting amazing test score. This is most likely caused lack of energy. Without enough energy, the brain fails to function properly, taking away the student’s capabilities. In the abc NEWS article, “Study: More Sleep, Sharper Brain” by William Mccall, “Previous studies have shown that 70 million Americans are sleep-deprived, contributing to increased accidents, worsening health and lower test scores.” Seasonal Schooling is a great way to get rid of this national problem. With seasonal schooling, students can wake up feeling alive and ready to take on the upcoming test that was prepared for with care. No longer will people misjudge others for being a bad student when in reality, the only thing to blame is bad sleep. Having seasonal schooling would increase the tests scores of students greatly.

 

Walk. Talk. Sit down. Do work. This is all the brain can really handle when sleep deprived from a long night. In other words, the brain is like a pile of mashed potatoes. It’s hard to interact with peers, and focus in school. And with this, sleep can interfere with many daily activities. Some that will shock America and leave people being best friends with a pillow. In the text it infers,”Studies have shown that even partial sleep deprivation has a significant effect on mood. University of Pennsylvania researchers found that subjects who were limited to only 4.5 hours of sleep a night for one week reported feeling more stressed, angry, sad, and mentally exhausted. When the subjects resumed normal sleep, they reported a dramatic improvement in mood.” In this piece of evidence, it reveals that having no sleep results in just a really bad day overall. Tolerance levels are substantially decreased and productivity is slim to none. Having no sleep is not helpful for anyone. It’s quite traumatizing to think that when having no sleep, everything gets thrown out of line. Sleep is the key for success and keeps everything glued in place. Seasonal school is beneficial for everyone because attitudes and work levels can be increased.     

 

This issue of no sleep can cause students to be drowsy and depressed, resulting in poor performance levels in school. Seasonal schooling can help all of these factors diminish, and can lead students to have a better school day overall. Studies have shown that these elements lead to better test scores, attitudes, and work levels: so in result, seasonal school would be beneficial. This can help everyday teens with relatable problems like: worrying about the test that is tomorrow and getting no sleep from stress, or staying up for a sports game. In conclusion, seasonal schooling would be a good alternative for everyday teens because early mornings are eliminated and a good day is waiting ahead.
