Minecraft: A Block by Block Review

Minecraft is a first-person sandbox game. Minecraft has been rated E10+. An extremely popular game, in the year 2020, it made $525 million dollars in revenue, sold 200 million copies, and had 131 million active players per month. Another example of its popularity is a YouTube blog post saying “This year, Minecraft Youtube passed a nearly unimaginable milestone. Videos related to the game have been viewed more than one trillion times.” It is a multi-platform game, meaning it could be played on multiple different platforms. The two different platforms are Java and Bedrock. Java edition is only for computers, while Bedrock can be played on a console, a computer, or a mobile device. Because of these differences, the prices for the two differ, with Java being $26.95 and Bedrock being $30 but Java is the more popular version. However, when the Bedrock edition is purchased on a mobile device, it only costs around $7, but this so-called “Pocket Edition” is highly unpopular among the majority of Minecraft players

Minecraft, like other video games, has both a single-player and a multiplayer mode. It is a sandbox game, which means that you can play however you want. Technically, there are no objectives, but there are “achievements” that one can do to challenge themselves. Minecraft is currently in the 1.18 update, also known as the Caves and Cliffs update. The next update is planned to be the 1.19 update, the Wild update. Major updates happen between 1 or 2 times a year. Smaller patches are released about once a month, typically bug fixes.

One thing that makes Minecraft unique is its customizability. You can change everything from the way the game looks to the game works, or simply use it to make an entirely different game. People can change the graphics and the sounds with “texture packs”. The default “texture pack” is 16x, or 256 pixels. Additionally, Minecraft is designed so people can easily edit the code, making it possible to do many different things in the game. In fact, some people have made games that have almost nothing to do with Minecraft, besides the fact that it was made with Minecraft.

However, there are similarities between Minecraft and other games. For one, you can change the controls to whatever you like. Another thing is that it has a multiplayer mode. You can create a server, which your friends and other people can join to play with you. The most popular Minecraft server is hypixel.net.

All these things combined make Minecraft a great game. It’s simplicity, combined with the ability to become almost anything one needs it to, make this game very versatile and fun. Technically, there are no goals, which is why I would recommend this game to anyone who wants to express themselves in creative ways, or just have some fun. However, for those that like more goal-oriented games, Minecraft has achievements for the player to follow, that require the player to do all sorts of things, like killing a dragon, or eating all the food in the game.
